She has experience across the continuum of care working in acute, subacute, inpatient and community rehabilitation, aged care assessment and older adult mental health residential transition care. This gives her a good understanding of the challenges being faced by older adults such adjustment to life transitions, grief and loss, trauma and social isolation.
Antoinette has extensive experience supporting clients and families with navigating the aged care system and linking them to appropriate supports and services.
Antoinette champions independence and wellness, and her practice is informed by person centred care and the right to self-determination. She believes that the individual is the expert and her role as the professional is to focus on the strengths and resources that clients bring to the helping environment. Her work is informed by a holistic systems approach recognising the role of family and carers in enhancing social and mental wellbeing of older adults.
She has a special interest in advocating for the needs of marginalised and vulnerable clients. She encourages and endeavours to create a compassionate and trauma informed response when working with this client population to facilitate engagement and produce desired outcomes that align with client values.
Antoinette graduated from the University of Kwazulu Natal in 1989 and is a member of the Australian Association of Social Workers. She is committed to enhancing the professional identity providing mentorship via the AASW and coaching of junior social workers in her past time.
Antoinette runs her own independent practice and engages Clear Health Psychology to provide administrative and other business services to enable her to provide assessment and treatment to her clients.
