Mary Collura-Oldham

Registered Psychologist
With over 45 years of professional experience—including more than 20 years in private practice—I bring a wealth of knowledge, insight, and expertise to my work. While I welcome all clients, I am particularly passionate about working with couples and families who are committed to strengthening their relationships. I believe relationships offer a powerful space for growth, healing, and deeper self-understanding.

About Me

I see therapy as a collaborative journey—one where I support you in exploring your thoughts, emotions, and life experiences with greater self-awareness, insight, and clarity.

I often describe my role as that of a facilitator or psychological midwife—guiding you through the process of birthing the most authentic version of yourself. This work involves deep self-reflection, uncovering unconscious patterns, and nurturing personal growth. When we align with our true selves, we make more intentional choices, cultivate healthier relationships, and create more meaningful and fulfilling lives.

For clients who are seeking a deeper exploration of purpose, identity, or belief systems, I also offer space to explore spiritual and existential concerns—such as meaning, connection, and life transitions. These conversations can be grounded in existential psychology, mindfulness-based practices, and values-driven approaches, and are always guided by your own worldview and preferences.

My Background

Before becoming a registered psychologist, I worked in the public sector across human resources, industrial relations, and policy development. My desire to work more directly with people led me to complete a Master of Psychology (Counselling) at Curtin University. Since then, I’ve worked with Relationships Australia before transitioning into private practice, where I now divide my time between psychological counselling and public sector adoption assessment work.

My Approach

I tailor my therapeutic approach to meet each client’s unique needs, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy – cultivating compassionate self-acceptance and learning to live more intentionally, in alignment with your values.
  • Attachment- and Trauma-Informed Therapy – Creating a safe, respectful space that supports emotional regulation, healing from past wounds, and building secure relationships.
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Understanding and managing thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to support positive change
  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) – deepening emotional connection through greater attunement to self and others, while strengthening trust, intimacy, and secure attachment.
  • Existential & Meaning-Centred Approaches – Exploring deeper questions about purpose, values, and identity
  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy – Integrating Gottman evidence-based tools to help couples strengthen communication, manage conflict, and deepen emotional connection.
  • Interpersonal Therapy – Strengthening communication, deepening emotional understanding, and improving relationship dynamics.
  • Mindfulness-Based Approaches – Enhancing self-awareness and emotional regulation by learning to be present rather than living on “auto-pilot”
  • Relaxation and Somatic Techniques – Supporting the nervous system and promoting calm through body-based strategies that reduce stress and increase emotional balance.
  • Schema Therapy – Identifying and reshaping old patterns that no longer serve your wellbeing or relationships.
  • Solution-Focused Therapy – Focusing on possibilities rather than problems, identifying your strengths, and developing clear, achievable steps toward meaningful change.

Above all, I bring a warm, collaborative presence to our work together—creating a space that is safe, respectful, and attuned to your unique story and goals.
