Dr Maxine Hawkins is the Principal Clinical Psychologist and Managing Director of Clear Health Psychology. Maxine is a highly experienced Clinical Psychologist who specialises in working with adults and adolescents in the areas of depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, stress management, chronic illness, self-esteem, and trauma (including road accidents and WorkCover). She also has expert knowledge with patients considering bariatric surgery.

She uses her extensive clinical experience to assist in understanding complex presentations. Her strengths are in her formulation skills to determine effective and individualised plans to meet client's treatment goals. Maxine combines components from the modalities of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Schema Therapy and psychodynamic approaches with clients.

Clinical experience and background

Dr Hawkins has 18 years’ experience working in Clinical Psychology. She has worked as a senior Clinical Psychologist across a number of hospitals in Melbourne and Perth in the areas of psycho-oncology, palliative care, cystic fibrosis, lung transplant, sleep disorders and chronic illness. She completed her doctorate at The University of Melbourne and moved to Perth in 2011. Dr Hawkins was the Clinical Director of Edith Cowan University Psychological Services Centre and Senior Lecturer. She lectured in the post-graduate clinical stream and provided clinical supervision in the clinical masters/doctoral programs. She has also worked as a Professional Officer for Psychology for the Australian Regulatory Health Agency assessing provisional psychologists and specialist title endorsements in WA. She now works full-time private practice.

Donna Stambulich is a Registered Psychologist with AHPRA and the Director of Clear Health Psychology Currambine. Donna has over 10 years of clinical experience in the treatment of alcohol and other substance abuse and misuse disorders, comorbidity, trauma and general psychological disorders including anxiety, depression and self-harming behaviours. Other areas of interest include Workplace Mental Health, Screen Addiction, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, attachment and the treatment of emotional distress resulting from grief.

Donna’s therapeutic approach is to provide a supportive and non-judgemental atmosphere in which people can feel safe to explore the nature and meaning of their present difficulties, and so find effective ways to resolve them.

Donna utilises clinically proven and evidence-based therapies. Different treatment approaches are used to best suit the client(s) and their goals. The type of treatment provided can range from brief, focused treatment for acute symptoms or problems, to more long-term therapy for entrenched personality, relationship or coping issues. Therapies include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-Based Skills, Schema Therapy and NA/AA 12 step work.

Donna has worked in specialist residential alcohol and other drug addiction treatment centre since 2004 as a Clinical Program Co-ordinator. She has recently completed a study into Vicarious Trauma Among Clinicians. Donna is also a published academic in the area of Second Families, Child Support and the Family Court System. She is also a mother of two young children and gives back to her community in a variety of settings, sitting on several Boards and Steering Committees.

Dr Elinor van Ommen is a Clinical Psychologist known for her holistic approach to psychological wellbeing. Elinor’s therapeutic focus is to understand the whole person, not just a collection of symptoms, and to help people identify and transcend unhelpful patterns that keep them feeling ‘stuck’. Elinor draws on a number of evidence-based therapies to tailor therapy to the needs and strengths of each client. Elinor is also a board-approved Clinical supervisor, a member of the Australian Psychological Society and a Fellow of the College of Clinical Psychologists.

Malcolm is a versatile and dynamic therapist whose approach is grounded in humour, compassion and genuineness. He understands that the idea of therapy can stir up all kinds of thoughts (worries) and feelings and seeks to help clients overcome this through his down to earth and personable style.

Malcolm’s approach to therapy is based on one central idea … “the whole point of seeing a psychologist is for things to change”. Changes that are for the better and changes that last. In reality, this is much easier said than done, but this is just a fact and not an obstacle. Malcolm works to build and nurture each client’s confidence in themselves and their ability to achieve their therapeutic goals.

Malcolm has been a practising psychologist and Member of the Australian Psychological Society for over 20 years. He has extensive experience working in the WA prison system, in addition to his work in programs for the homeless, worker’s compensation/rehabilitation, domestic violence and youth outreach.

Malcolm utilises empirically validated treatment approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT). He also draws on Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Existential Therapy and Provocative Therapy as well as incorporating knowledge and ideas from the fields of biology, neuroscience and philosophy. Malcolm has also recently completed training in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR).

Michelle is an experienced Psychologist who is registered with the Psychology Board of Australia. She works with clients of varying ages including adults, adolescents and children. Michelle first began working in mental health 17 years ago and has been a registered psychologist for the past 13 years. She has worked in a variety of roles which include specialised trauma services (including war-related trauma), community mental health, vocational rehabilitation, child protection and private practice. Laura is a registered psychologist with 20 years of clinical experience in the treatment of general and specific mental health disorders. She believes people can achieve success and positive outcomes through the process of therapy and helping them to engage with their positive supports/activities.

Laura will work with people using a non-judgemental, empathic and supportive approach in her counselling, whilst helping them to achieve their goals. Laura has extensive experience working with people who have mental health disorders including depression, anxiety, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorders, grief and trauma, attachment, bipolar disorder and personality disorders, people at risk of offending, drug and alcohol misuse and self-harm.

She uses evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy and Mindfulness to help people achieve their goals and achieve positive wellbeing. Laura is trained in the Triple P parenting programme and the Circle of Security attachment parenting programme.

Laura also helps people to overcome their low self-esteem issues and to manage their stress, grief and loss. She works with individuals and their families who live with a disability, to help them to have a positive life and to reduce any challenging issues.

Clinical Experience and Background

Laura has worked in mental health organisations including Joondalup Community Mental Health and Injury Management organisations providing assessments, counselling, and support. Laura worked in London for just under 4 years as a psychologist for the social services organisation, Children’s Direct Services. She worked with people who had disabilities and provided counselling to people and their families who lived with a life-threatening illness.

On returning to Perth she then worked at the Autism Association of W.A on the clinical team for 5 years, at the Disability Services Commission for 4 years as a Team Leader and Senior Psychologist. Laura provides talks in the community about managing stress and trauma, about supporting people who have a disability or mental health condition using positive behaviour support strategies. She has an interest in working with adults and children who have an Autism Spectrum Condition.

Laura has completed a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) at Curtin University achieved in 1997, Post Grad Diploma of Psychology (Advanced Specialisation in Rehabilitation Counselling) achieved in 1998.

Gemma is a Clinical Psychologist (Registrar) with AHPRA. She takes a person-centred, trauma-informed and holistic approach to provide therapy to children, adolescents and adults. Gemma works collaboratively with clients not only to relieve their current symptoms of distress but also to develop insight into their dysfunctional patterns of thinking and behaviour. Gemma’s particular areas of interest include Emotional and behavioural difficulties, Emotional regulation difficulties, Parenting struggles, Sleeping difficulties, Interpersonal and relationship problems, Perinatal and Infant Mental Health, Bonding and attachment difficulties, Developmental trauma, Depression, anxiety and panic attacks, and Disability support, particularly ASD.

Gemma completed her Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree at the University of Western Australia, and her Master of Psychology (Clinical) degree at Edith Cowan University. Through her work, Gemma has developed a special interest in working with children living with a disability and/or developmental trauma.

Gemma has thrived in her previous roles as a psychologist in perinatal infant mental health and in child protection settings, providing psychological support to vulnerable children and youth from diverse cultural backgrounds and providing psychoeducation to carers and at-risk parents.

Gemma has six years of experience working with adults and children in the disability field, including those that exhibit multiple complex behaviours of concern. Her expertise and passion for working in this field were recognised at the Disability Support Awards in 2019 when she was announced as a finalist for the Home and Family Support Award. It was through her longstanding and successful live-in support role that Gemma developed a passion for empowering and supporting others to achieve their goals and enhance their quality of life.

Felicity is experienced in working alongside adults and adolescents who are experiencing distress in everyday life. She helps clients to develop a better understanding of the origins of problem behaviours so that they are able to make changes that go beyond symptom relief. Felicity’s areas of interest include eating disorders, interpersonal difficulties, personality issues, substance use issues, mood and anxiety disorders, domestic violence behaviours and relationship issues.

Felicity combines components from therapeutic approaches including Contextual Schema Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Interpersonal Process Therapy, and attachment- based interventions.

Felicity obtained her Masters qualification in Clinical Psychology at Curtin University of Technology and has over 10 years experience working in Clinical and Forensic Psychology. She has worked as a senior Clinical Psychologist in various forensic settings and is very experienced in working with clients who present with significant resistance to engaging in treatment. Her long history with forensic clients has allowed her to develop strong interpersonal skills that focus on building a safe and warm therapeutic space for clients. Felicity believes that therapy is a time for self-reflection and gentle persuasion to confront those issues that hurt us and prevent us from moving forward in life.

Su is an experienced researcher and has published in peer-reviewed journals in areas including: person-centred and self-directed care and recovery in mental health consumers; primary carers’ occupational adaptation and engagement; and the enablers and barriers of social inclusion for young adults with intellectual disability.

Poonam obtained her Psychology qualification through Curtin University of Technology and has worked over several years in government organisations and private practice using an evidenced based, client centred approach. She has worked with corrective services as a Registered Psychologist running group programs, assessment and counselling services. Poonam believes every client is different and tailors her approach to that which best suits the client’s needs. She believes in providing a safe therapeutic environment where clients are able to express their concerns without fear of judgement. Poonam helps clients understand their triggers, create self-awareness and provide them with skills to improve their wellbeing. Poonam is fluent in both English and Gujarati.

Karina is experienced with treating adolescents and adults of all ages, including older adults. Karina’s therapeutic style is client-led, holistic and compassionate.  She believes in treating the whole person; understanding and appreciating the complexity of humans, their relationships, personality structure, and the impact of life events.  

Karina uses an evidence-based, integrated approach to therapy.  She has completed training in psychodynamic therapy, mindfulness, Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT).  Karina believes in the role of the ‘therapeutic alliance’ in healing, and works with clients to relieve present symptoms of distress as well as helping clients gain insight into patterns of behaviour and how these develop.

Karina completed her Honours and Masters Degree in Applied Clinical Psychology at Murdoch University.  She has over 13 years experience in the Health and Education sectors, most recently in Clinical Psychology. Karina has worked in both in- and outpatient public health settings, as well as private practice and has developed strong clinical diagnostic skills. Karina has worked in research and education, contributing towards research in ‘positive psychology’, including the benefits of extracurricular activity participation to wellbeing for adolescents in Perth.

Karina offers therapy for a broad range of psychological and emotional issues, with a special interest in life-stage and identity issues.  Karina has experience treating depression, anxiety, panic, worry and stress, adjustment, coping with chronic illness, pain management, emotional regulation, trauma, and interpersonal problems. Janet works from a strength-based perspective, working alongside individuals, couples and families to achieve their goals and work towards wellbeing. Janet is experienced in working with children and adolescents, the areas of anxiety, depression, challenging behaviours, self-esteem, bonding and attachment difficulty, trauma and abuse, post-traumatic stress, parental separation and divorce. With adults, in working with depression and anxiety, personality disorders, parenting support (PPP, Circle of security, attachment parenting), trauma and abuse and adjusting to life change.

She has been trained in several evidence based therapeutic techniques including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma Focused CBT, Schema Therapy and many other Psychotherapy models.

Janet obtained her Honours in Psychology with Human Resource Management at Middlesex University in the UK and Masters in Clinical Psychology at Edith Cowan University. Janet has a number of years’ experience working in private practice and in children and family services. Whilst most of Janet’s experience has been working with at risk children and families, focusing on childhood trauma and abuse, Janet also has experience working in many other fields of psychology across the lifespan. Janet continues to be involved in research that is involved with Children in Out of Home Care, specifically kinship care.

Carmel is experienced in working with young adults, adults and couples in the areas of anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, personality disorders, adjustment issues, blended family difficulties, relationship challenges, FIFO relationships, cross cultural issues and grief and loss.

Carmel has been trained in several evidence based therapeutic techniques including; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Re-Processing (EMDR), as well as several of the psychodynamic therapies. She has completed advanced Emotion Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) and has additional training in family and couples therapy. Carmel’s work is informed by attachment theory. She is comfortable seeing clients for short, medium and longer term work.

Carmel graduated from Murdoch University and has completed the training and placement components of the Clinical Masters Programme at ECU. Carmel’s previous workplace environments and placements have included; private practice, Employee Assistance Providers (EAP), not for profit agencies and the private hospital sector. Carmel was involved in research into FIFO couples and has a particular interest in attachment theory and its relationship to couple therapy and relationship issues. She has worked in private practice for several years.

Carmel seeks to create a warm and welcoming therapeutic space in which a client may feel safe and validated. She sees this as the first step in the therapeutic process. Carmel hopes that psychological therapy will become more widely used as a form of prevention and life enhancement.

Rose obtained her Masters qualifications in Clinical Psychology at Edith Cowan University and has over 25 years’ experience in the Health Industry - with qualifications obtained as both a Registered Nurse in her early career, and currently as a Clinical Psychologist. Her Thesis on ‘The factors that impact Adolescents in their Transition to High School’ has been published in The Journal of Child and Adolescent Health.

Andrew works with a strengths-based approach and helps consolidate clients build upon and improve areas such as communication, conflict resolution, anger management and relationship issues. Andrew believes that creating positive client relationships, rapport and trust are the key to a safe and effective therapeutic journey for his clients.

Clinical experience and background

Andrew obtained his Psychology qualification through Curtin University of Technology. He has experience working in private practice and a background as a Registered Psychologist with corrective services running offender focused rehabilitation programs both within the prison context and within the community, to co-facilitate in psycho-educational, emotion-focused and therapeutic and rehabilitation-based programs.

His approach to therapy is to create curiosity, openness and motivation with his clients. Andrew believes these components are highly effective in reaching treatment goals and helping people to return to their desired self. Andrew’s aim is to treat everyone he works with, with respect, dignity and in a non-judgmental way. He has a wide range of experience working primarily with adult and adolescent clients with a broad range of presenting issues.

Clinical Psychologist

Lina is a registered Clinical Psychologist with AHPRA, and a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and Australian Clinical Psychologists Association.

Lina is experienced in working with children, adolescents, adults and couples. Lina’s therapeutic style is client centred, holistic and compassionate and works collaboratively with clients to reach therapy goals using evidence-based approaches such as cognitive-behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, imagery rescripting and reprocessing, EMDR and psychodynamic principles. She has a special interest in compassion-focused therapy, and has conducted research on enhancing mindfulness with self-compassion.

Clinical Experience and Background

Lina has completed her Master’s Degree in Applied Clinical Psychology and has over 20 years’ experience in the Health industry, most recently in inpatient and outpatient public health services and private practice, with qualifications obtained as both a Registered Nurse in her early career, and currently as a Clinical Psychologist.

Lina offers therapy for a broad range of psychological, emotional and life change issues, including all forms of depression, anxiety, worry and stress, difficulties with emotion regulation, trauma, and interpersonal problems. Using a non-judgmental approach, Lina works with clients to diminish distressing symptoms, shift unhelpful life patterns, and find meaning in their experience.

Psychologist

Jeff is experienced in working with adolescents and adults around issues including depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief and loss, adjustment and trauma reactions, interpersonal / relationship conflicts and addiction.

Accessing support can be daunting and as such, Jeff’s warm and engaging style aims to create a safe and relaxed space to work through challenges. Jeff’s therapeutic approach is client-centered and collaborative, utilizing evidence-based techniques from CBT, DBT, ACT, Schema, Motivational Interviewing and Interpersonal Psychotherapy modalities.

Jeff obtained his Psychology qualifications through Murdoch University. He started his career at the Education department working with difficult to engage young people. Jeff has also worked in the criminal justice system and more recently in youth mental health, drug and alcohol services and private practice.

Mary Collura-Oldham

Mary Collura-Oldham

Psychologist

Mary is a Registered Psychologist with over 16 years’ experience in psychological practice.  She works with individuals, couples and families.  In her earlier career she worked within the public sector in a range of roles including human resources, industrial relations and policy development. After completing her Masters she worked for Relationships Australia before moving into private practice.  She now divides her time between her psychological counselling practice and contract assessment work within the public sector.

Mary adopts a range of treatment interventions depending on the client’s needs – including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Relaxation techniques and other psychotherapeutic approaches. 

She fosters a respectful and compassionate therapeutic space for clients to explore and develop deeper insight and awareness of their own process.  Through this practice of deeper reflection and self-examination, clients are afforded simple opportunities to cultivate and foster more authentic and meaningful lives and relationships for themselves.  Clients often find, that this approach in turn helps engender a greater sense of peace, well-being and acceptance both of self and others.
