Carmel Bob is a registered psychologist who is a member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Carmel is experienced in working with young adults, adults and couples in the areas of anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, personality disorders, adjustment issues, blended family difficulties, relationship challenges, FIFO relationships, cross cultural issues and grief and loss.
Carmel has been trained in several evidence based therapeutic techniques including; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Interpersonal Process Therapy (IPT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Re-Processing (EMDR), as well as several of the psychodynamic therapies. She has completed advanced Emotion Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) and has additional training in family and couples therapy. Carmel’s work is informed by attachment theory. She is comfortable seeing clients for short, medium and longer term work.
Clinical experience and background
Carmel graduated from Murdoch University and has completed the training and placement components of the Clinical Masters Programme at ECU. Carmel’s previous workplace environments and placements have included; private practice, Employee Assistance Providers (EAP), not for profit agencies and the private hospital sector. Carmel was involved in research into FIFO couples and has a particular interest in attachment theory and its relationship to couple therapy and relationship issues. She has worked in private practice for several years.
Carmel seeks to create a warm and welcoming therapeutic space in which a client may feel safe and validated. She sees this as the first step in the therapeutic process. Carmel hopes that psychological therapy will become more widely used as a form of prevention and life enhancement.
